We didn’t even finish unfolding the chairs before a group of 30+ kids came running up excited as anything to paint their own Swing.

That energy kept up for the next five hours until we ran out of the 200+ Swings we brought!

We were thrilled to see more people than ever take their creations home to hang by themselves!!!

People want their Swings!!! This is giving us even more ideas-a good thing since we have had 1000+ Swings painted, waiting to be hung. We had a ton of fun out there and send a big thank you to everyone who came out to support!

Florida is a funny place. The heat was pushing 100ºF for the first couple hours that new friends jammed out some awesome Swings. As if someone casually flicked a switch everyone at Free Museum Day by the St. Petersburg Museum of History got absolutely soaked by a large, looming, and gray unexpected guest. We got rained out!!!

It was fun while it lasted. We painted 50+ Swings and met a lot of really awesome people: some local, some not!

Big thanks to everyone who came out to see us even in the wet weather!!! And a HUGE THANK YOU to ArtOn Central for inviting us to their event for Free Museum Day!!!

We’re flattered to be dubbed the “Best Swingers” in all of the land! Or, at least in all of Tampa Bay. We are ecstatic to also be the reader’s choice runners up for “Best New Idea in Tampa Bay”.

Swings Tampa Bay
Who woulda thunk a homemade swing could be the start of a movement? Some of the judges for CL’s 10/100/1000 contest last spring were at first unpersuaded by Swings Tampa Bay, but the sweet simplicity of the idea — hanging colorful rope swings in unexpected places, leading to spontaneous bursts of inter-generational playfulness and communion — won us over. And now the brainchild of USF students Reuben Pressman and Hunter Payne has grown from a guerrila effort to a full-fledged cause celebre, with a new website, swing-painting parties, plans to create a 501(c)3 — and, of course, swings. “We’ve hung 61 swings and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!” their website promises. There’s one hanging in CL’s office — swing on by. swingstampabay.com.

We hold our new title proud and send a huge thank-you to everybody out there who voted for us!

We have also been thinking about creating some type of pick-up and drop off boxes for Swings around town for those that want to paint one at home and leave it back for us!

The diminutive, birdhouse-like libraries, which Brooks and Bol began installing in Hudson and Madison, Wisconsin, in 2009, are typically made of wood and Plexiglas and are designed to hold about 20 books for community members to borrow and enjoy. Offerings include anything from Russian novels and gardening guides to French cookbooks and Dr. Seuss. Read More

We were invited to hang a Swing for the event, and had a specially painted Swing with the Tampa Bay Wave’s logo to raffle off to raise money towards their new co-working space.

This was hung inside the Roosevelt 2.0 and will stay permanently!

We love donating Swings to other non-profits! We have and are currently working with Clinica Verde, Habitat for Humanity Pinellas, Tampa Bay Wave Creative Clay, UPARC, and My Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Have a great idea for a way to work with us? Email Reuben to get in touch!

We made a ton of new friends, had a lot of people ask to volunteer, and over 50 Swings were painted. We’d do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks again to everybody who came out to spread the love!

It got so busy people took their Swings to the sidewalk to paint.

For this event we primed the Swings in new colors like electric blue, lime green, bright orange, deep purple, sunshine yellow, and plain ole’ white and everybody went nuts. The bright blue and green disappeared immediately. Note taken… :)

A magical Hi-5 Zone appeared in front of our tent! Anyone in the Zone got to Hi-5 whoever was next to them. Thousands of hands were fived at a great height.
